Australia: North Queensland braces for ‘catastrophic’ unprecedented floods that could last well into next week
This is happening in my city right now
About 300 homes were affected by severe flooding at about 1700 (AEST) on Saturday, 2 February. We are expecting that to rise to about 400 to 500 homes overnight out of a population of 80,000. If the rain continues overnight and into tomorrow, if we keep going the way we are today, we are talking about 10,000 to 20,000 homes.
More than the annual average rainfall has fallen on parts of north Queensland in the past week, creating a disaster area stretching 700km along the coast from Cairns to Mackay.
The bulging Ross River dam was at 216 per cent capacity at 5pm Saturday despite gates being opened to let water out.
This is my town. Pray for me. They are releasing more water from the dam tonight which will cause more flooding but prevent major catastrophe. It’s still raining heavy… :(

JK Rowling wrote literal homophobic propaganda in her children’s books and is now passing it off as positive representation
every single day I hate her more
Is no one thinking… that just because she wrote a parallel to homophobic propaganda, doesn’t mean she is presenting it as good? Sometimes authors expose the ugly so we can recognise how wrong that is.
